FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – 3 FAQ – HP 640 G1 – INTEL CORE i5 | 8GB RAM / 500GB HDD | BUSINESS LAPTOP

1. Q1: Is 4th Gen i5 too old in 2026? Will it be slow and can it run Windows 11 and Office 2021?
A: 4th Gen i5 is old but for business work it is still very capable. It is faster than new Intel Celeron N4020, Pentium Gold that many new laptops under 30k use. For Office 2021, Chrome 30 tabs, Zoom, YouTube, Tally, QuickBooks – it runs smoothly with 8GB RAM. Yes it runs Windows 10 Pro perfectly and can run Windows 11 Pro (we install). It will not be fast for heavy video editing or latest games, but for office, school, business – it is excellent value. If you want faster, we can add 256GB SSD for KSh 3,500 and it will boot in 10 seconds – becomes 3x faster than HDD.
2. Q2: What is battery life and does 500GB HDD make it slow? Can I upgrade to SSD later?
A: Battery 6-cell gives 4-5 hours normal use (Word, browsing). Heavy video reduces to 3 hours. Battery is replaceable – new costs KSh 3,500 and gives 5-6 hours. For HDD – yes HDD is slower than SSD, but 500GB gives you huge space. Boot takes 45-60 seconds with HDD vs 12 seconds with SSD. Solution: We offer hybrid – keep 500GB HDD for storage and add 128GB SSD for Windows – best of both worlds for KSh 2,500 extra. You can upgrade anytime at our shop in 15 minutes. We recommend SSD upgrade for students who need speed.

3. Q3: Does it have backlight keyboard, fingerprint, and does it support WiFi and Bluetooth?

A: HP 640 G1 standard does NOT have backlit keyboard – it has normal spill-resistant keyboard. Some units with backlight cost extra KSh 1,500 – ask us. Fingerprint reader is optional – some units have it, some not – we have both, same price. Yes it has WiFi (802.11n) and Bluetooth 4.0 for connecting phone, mouse, speaker. It also has Gigabit Ethernet LAN for fast office internet, VGA + DisplayPort for projectors/monitors, DVD drive, SD card reader – full business ports that new laptops removed.
